Legal Definition of a Superintendent

One. The head of the school department is appointed by the school commission of the department from among all the beneficiaries certified by the Council of State. All Superintendents` contractual terms expire on June 30. The term of office of the superintendent of the department is initially not less than two years and not more than four years. At the end of the first term, the head of department may hold office for the term determined by the employing school board, which may not exceed four years. Where a school board appoints a head of department in accordance with this section and the person appointed applies for and receives dismissal of the appointment before taking office, the school board has 60 days from the date of his release to make a new appointment.
