If we are unable to help you because we are not providing support for your case, you may be able to get help from your local legal clinic or student legal aid organization. Community Legal Services of Ottawa / Services juridiques communautaires d`Ottawa is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We provide legal aid, public legal education and community initiatives to low-income Ottawa residents. A refugee claimant or immigrant legal aid applicant without a lawyer may choose one of three service providers based on their needs and location. LAO invites lawyers from the Immigration and Refugee List to participate in the Immigration Detention Representation Program (ISRP). The salary corresponds to the salary ranges of the Legal Clinic. Compensation includes a generous health plan and RRSP contributions. Refugee Law Office (RLO) (Toronto): Provides services to legally assisted refugee claimants in Toronto. The RLO also provides representation in detention checks before the Immigration Department, as well as support for lawyers and public relations. We are looking for a paralegal or lawyer who works primarily in immigration and refugee law.
Legal Aid Montreal (immigration law) 440 René-Lévesque Boulevard West, Suite 1001 Montreal, QC Telephone: 514-849-3671 or 1-800-842-2213 No one is illegal: a grassroots organization of “immigrants, refugees and allies fighting for the right of all migrants to live in dignity and respect.” Even if you have a legal aid certificate, you will still have to pay the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada application and registration fee for your immigration matters. We can pay a lawyer to represent you if you are a refugee claimant or a skilled immigrant for legal aid services. If you are eligible for legal aid but do not have a lawyer, you may be represented by a private law society or LAO lawyer. Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB): The independent administrative tribunal responsible for immigration and refugee decisions. The IRB decides who needs refugee protection from among the thousands of claimants who come to Canada each year. Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council: Visit the Council`s website to find a counsellor or file a complaint through an immigration consultant. The Immigration and Refugee Service does not provide legal aid or cover the costs of representing a lawyer or other legal counsel in your case. Inmates retain the option of obtaining a legal aid certificate outside of the IDRP if they wish, and retaining the services of a registered lawyer who is not participating in the program.
Legal Aid Ontario (LAO): Services are provided to eligible refugees by private lawyers and LAO lawyers and are also available at some legal clinics. Services include preparation of the application form, representation at asylum hearings, the Refugee Appeals Board and judicial reviews (Federal Supreme Court). The program aims to connect unrepresented detained clients with counsel in a timely manner to ensure meaningful representation at the 48-hour review hearing and subsequent hearings if the client remains in custody. It also provides training and mentoring to roster lawyers who perform detention work. The goal of this hybrid model is to ensure access to counselling services for all unrepresented immigrant inmates in Ontario. The provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador provide legal aid to immigrants and refugees. This may include legal information, advice, assistance and representation for eligible persons in immigration and refugee matters. If you are unable to pay a lawyer to represent you and we do not cover your case, you may be able to get help from your community law clinic, the Student Legal Aid Society or, if you live in the Ottawa area, the Integrated Legal Services Office – Ottawa.
